New Benefits

It’s estimated that 1 in 7 couples have difficulty getting pregnant. Fertility treatments can cost thousands even dollars, even tens of thousands of dollars. According to GoodRX, treatments can be over $30K.

Unfortunately, there are not many insurance options for those who struggle with fertility. But a huge change is coming!

Fertility benefits are not often covered and are often very expensive.  Although rules can vary by state, options are still limited. Options are even more limited for those with marketplace plans.

However, Aetna is now taking major steps to help couples who struggle with fertility.

Aetna will now cover intrauterine insemination (IUI) as a benefit in eligible plans nationwide, becoming the first major insurer to expand coverage nationally. These expanded benefits with Aetna will open the doors to countless couples wishing to conceive.

Without insurance coverage, an IUI can cost up to $4000. Efficacy is estimated at around 20% and while that is about half of the efficacy of IVF, it is much less invasive and much less expensive. This makes it a more common first step in fertility treatment as opposed to IVF.

If this benefit is important to you, make sure to filter for Aetna plans during open enrollment.

This plan is being rolled out slowly as of September 1, 2024.
