Dental and Vision Plans
Health insurance and Original Medicare cover very little routine dental and vision care, so cleanings, fillings, crowns, eye exams, and glasses often come out of your pocket. A stand-alone plan helps cover those costs.
How Dental Insurance Works
Most plans cover care in three tiers, with an annual deductible and an annual maximum, the most the plan pays in a year.
Cleanings, exams, and X-rays.
Fillings and simple extractions.
Crowns, bridges, and dentures.
Percentages vary by plan. Some plans have waiting periods before basic or major care is covered.
Dental PPO Plans
See any dentist, but pay less in network. The most flexible option and the best fit if you want to keep a dentist you already see.
Dental HMO Plans
Lower premiums and set copays, but you must use a dentist in the plan's network, with generally no coverage outside it.
Dental Discount Plans
Not insurance. You pay a membership fee for reduced prices at participating dentists, with no annual maximum or waiting periods.
Vision Coverage
Vision plans help pay for routine eye exams, glasses, and contacts. A typical plan covers an exam and lenses once a year and frames every one or two years, with a copay for the exam and an allowance toward frames or contacts. Medical eye care, such as glaucoma or cataract treatment, is usually covered by your health insurance or Medicare instead.
Dental and Vision With Medicare
Original Medicare does not cover routine dental care, eye exams for glasses, or hearing aids. You can add a stand-alone plan alongside Original Medicare and a Medigap plan, or choose a Medicare Advantage plan with extra benefits. Medicare Advantage dental benefits often have lower annual maximums, so compare both if you expect major dental work.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I keep my dentist?
Often, yes. We check that your dentist is in network before you enroll, and we also offer plans that cover out-of-network care.
Is there a waiting period?
It depends on the plan. Preventive care usually has no waiting period, and the NCD plans have no waiting periods at all.
Can I buy dental and vision coverage on its own?
Yes. You can buy stand-alone dental and vision plans at any time of year, whether or not you have other health coverage.
How much does it cost to work with you?
Nothing. Our service is at no cost to you.
